About the Parish
St. Sebastian’s Forane Church Mathikere is one of the Major Parishes of the Diocese of Mandya under the Arch-Diocese of Tellicherry of the Syro-Malabar Church. The church consists of around 450 families surrounding the Mathikere area including Malleswaram, Yeshwanthpur, M S Palaya, Rajaji Nagar, Kempepura, Vidyaranyapura, HMT layout etc.
The members of the congregation are highly dedicated to the Christian religious life and devoted to charity and philanthropic activities. Each member of a family is, in one way or the other involved in the charitable activities of the church through forums like Mathruvedi, Pitruvedi for the elderly women and men respectively, Vincent de Paul Society, Good Samaritan Ministry, Catechism Students and SABYO an organization for the youths, etc.
There is a Catechetical department with highly qualified and experienced Teachers and staff in the church who conduct regular Sunday classes from 8.30 am to 10.00 am for the faith formation for around 300 Plus students from Nursery to 12th Standard. There is a high level of Cooperation, coordination, and concurrence between the teaching team, PTA members, Catechism Director, and the Commission for Bible and Catechetics of Mandya Diocese in all activities of the faith formation.
The families of the church are divided into Unit level groups called Wards. These Wards are administered under the leadership of a President, Secretary, and Asst. Secretary etc. These Wards are responsible for ward-level activities which include ward prayers, Rosary, Christmas Carols, Ambu Perunnal, etc. Apart from Ward level groups, there are Parish council members and Trustees. These Trustees function as a core group of the church administration along with the Parish Priest and Asst. Parish Priest.
The Sunday and daily Eucharistic celebration in the church is a living witness of a rich and glorious moment of worship, prayer, and blessings. St. Sebastian’s feast is a wonderful event generally conducted in the month of January every year. The church also celebrates all the major feasts of Saints, Christmas, and New Year with Eucharistic Celebrations.
St. Sebastian’s Church is a blessing not only for the Christian community but also most of the people surrounding the area who consider St. Sebastian as a patron saint of them and pray to the saint for intercession for special needs and blessings.
